The idsa of establishing a non-profit organisation Friends of the Indonesian Botanic Gardens (FIBG) originated from the increasing concern about the environment initiated by a prominent weekly women's magazine Femina. A series of articles appeared in this nationally well-known magazine promoting interest on all aspects of Indonesia's rich biodiversity resources.
When Femina celebrated its 20th anniversary, the magazine considered the need to highlight a stonger concern toward one valuable national asset, the existance and future of the Indonesian Botanic Gardens (IBG).
FIBG was formally established on 22 September 1994. The formation of the organisation was strongly supported by those who are most enthusiastic about the future of the IBG.
